Andrea's PhD research in Language and Literacy Education employs arts-based research methods to explore the craft of speculative comics as a primary way of understanding and examining young people’s ideas and attitudes about the present/future. Enriched through interdisciplinary scholarship reaching across the fields of creative writing, literacy education, media, and visual arts her work integrates theories of youth empowerment, autoethnography, and participatory practices within the creation of graphic narratives. Andrea is a UBC Public Scholar and Mitacs Accelerate Fellow at the University of British Columbia. From 2022-2023 she was a Shadbolt Fellow in the Arts and Humanities at Simon Fraser University and a Visiting Faculty in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
